Mayer to host talk on international law and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Two renowned scholars and authors will discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in Mayer Theatre tonight.

Professors Norman Finkelstein and John Dugard will discuss the 2004 ruling in favor of Palestine by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This ruling about the Wall, borders, settlements and Jerusalem is the final decision on these issues.

Finkelstein, the son of holocaust survivors, has written several books on the Holocaust and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He has also written on the ICJ's ruling and the Israeli Courts' reactions.

Dugard served as special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories and is a professor of international law. He has also served on the ICJ.

They will examine the importance of the ruling and why activists all over the world should take it seriously.

The event is sponsored by the Center for Global Law and Policy at Santa Clara and the South Bay Mobilization. It begins at 7 p.m., and entrance is free. Donations will be accepted.

Campus organizations to discuss diversity

Various organizations are combining forces to host conversations on diversity issues.

Tonight, Santa Clara Community Action Program, Associated Students and the Multicultural Center are putting on a diversity chat as a part of Rock the Vote week. The discussion will center around how race and socioeconomic factors affect voting patterns.

The Office for Multicultural Learning will host its first Difficult Dialogue Monday, Oct. 20. The Santa Clara is co-sponsoring the event.

The first of this monthly series will focus on gender and diversity issues, with regard to their coverage in the media. Sally Lehrman, a professor in the Communications department, will facilitate the discussion.

Come on. Finklestein is no scholar. He is an self-hating Jewish activist who is unable to keep a teaching job anywhere.
